Harper, Election

And more and more in the news, Harper the impending election. I think to myself that if Alberta can replace the Conservatives, then maybe so can the country...

It's a simple thing, ally yourself against what every customer in the restaurant is voting for and in some measure your interests may be served.

Of the many things I dislike about him (and there are quite a few), one that recently has been gathering some press is his censure of government scientists and staff.

In a democracy, this is wrong. Or, to  perhaps clarify, it is wrong, regardless, but it is especially in a country that prides itself on being a "Democracy". We pay the scientists and the Government, and have therefore rights to access their research. The censure that he's placed upon them strongly suggests not only wrongdoing, but complicity...

Any democracy - or government - in a first world country should be able to tolerate both the truth and dissent. That Harper will tolerate neither suggests we live in a dictatorship.

If only the Liberals could see that they've never had a better chance, just give us a reasonable candidate (not Justin Trudeau, sorry..).

And, for a gentler and kinder view of Harper's Tenure in Office:

Note: There's something about a country that under Obama has continued to execute it's own citizens without trial or evidence calling us "Regressive". We should take notice.

Road Trip

5'6", 110 lbs, and she doesn't even slightly pull her punches. I'm in no position to retaliate, driving, in traffic, I can see opportunity a mile away but there's no safe way to wind up, when finally I get a good one in her eyes tear up, she accuses me of hitting her too hard, she's of course under no such restraints.

The game is, of course, "Punch Buggy, no return", for every VW Bug (or modern equivalent) I receive a bruising punch to the shoulder. One doesn't hurt, but try driving through Calgary, downtown, rush hour and see how many you get. I've got a callous. And add to this the hundreds of peripheral rules, an added "Banana Slap" if it's yellow, there's an added "chop" if it's a convertible, and another pinch or punch if it's a vintage bug...

These rules, they're carefully withheld, one needs to enquire after specifically brutal outbreak to find them out, they're then presented as matter of fact and of course I should have known this...

And there are the misidentified cars, she preemptively punches me upon sight of a VW logo, her eyes are better than mine, worse when the car comes to pass, a Jetta, Golf, Lexus even, if the color is right, so many mistakes I'm forced to add in penalties...

These games, they're her revenge for every empty country road and prospecting misadventure I've ever taken her on, and it crosses my mind that if Humbert-Humbert suffered a cross-country road trip with his 14 year old Lolita than he doubtless got what he deserved...

Misery

3 days of rain and snow, 6 degrees above zero, wretched weather that lends itself to hot chocolate and brandy, fireplaces, nights at the bistro or theatre, but not on this budget...

The view from the balcony.

Canada Post (2)

Another week, another 5 undelivered parcels. I've posted a screenshot of 2 of my undelivered parcels, with order date and "estimated delivery". They were all ordered at the same time. Read that. The daughter's returned to Qatar, the boy off to college, and the trifles I'd intended to give to them, despite being ordered well in time, have not yet arrived.

You guys. Really, you fucking guys...
