I like Sir Walter Scott. He gets a bad rap for his romances, they were good, competent, of the time, period pieces, he was reasonable, intelligent, he did well, why not?
Picked this up in a dollar bin. Good so far.
If only I could have found a first edition, or at least one with a less garishly illustrated cover...

A Yellow Ticket, Picking up my Mother
I'm at the hospital, picking up my Mother. They've a yellow ticket they're showing me, long, filled in with check-boxes, a 28 day stay until she died, the check-boxes are illustrating the services she used while she was alive, a bill of sorts...
...And upon my agreement to the charges the nurses pull out another check-box ticket, this one is for me, I've some 20-odd days left, and would I mind paying for the services I've used so far...
