The Old London Phone Boxes

Unpacking - Slowly - found all these old cards in one box. For those of you who would remember, there used to be - in London - Phoneboxes that all the local prostitutes would fill with their cards advertising their services. I found it novel and collected a pile, it was an infinitely renewable stash, invariably they'd be replaced the next day.

But now there are no more phoneboxes, they've all disappeared (I imagine, like Pay Phones in Canada and the US) - and the cards - I imagine - have gone with them. So - I've scanned the remaining few I have before I send them off to share with you. I have no more need of them (did I ever?) and will be sending them off as postcards. If you'd like one send me your address - quick, before they're all gone.

Rod Boyle

Again, scanning old photos, found these. The old international drivers license, I look like Eastern European spy...

2001

Digging through the locker, the first trove of old photos, scanned into the computer.

And there was this one:

Rod Boyle 2001

Which, at a guess, taken 2001. I'm always amazed when people recognize me on the street, year to year I don't even recognize myself.

A new Cell-Phone

Every time. My contract expires, I start getting text messages telling me that my contract expired, that I'm due for a free upgrade. I ignore them, my phone, it's working great, what would I need another for?

But one day, maybe 6 months out of contract, the "company" has had enough of my resistance, charging the phone and it fails. Charging is when it updates, I'm suspicious, according to the display the battery isn't charging, but - it's a bit of a coincidence, the phone,  it's like new, A Samsung Galaxy Neo 5, and every time I'm just out of contract the old phone mysteriously dies and I have to get a new phone, change my agreement, upgrade my service...

The new phone, a Huawei, the same as is in the news, an absolutely great camera on it, amazing, otherwise it's still a damned phone, only now I'm allowed more texting and day to day internet insanity than I would ever have needed or dreamed I could afford.
