John Wick 4

Clearly this is well outside my normal film tastes, but I had to see.

It was good - FOR WHAT IT WAS!!!.

By which I mean that everyone did a fine job, the Hong Kong Actor who played "Cane" was excellent, a humorous nod to "The Blind Samurai", the fight-scenes, choreography, settings, all amazing. Keanu Reeves trains very well and is in excellent shape to realize the role.

So, temper your expectations to moderate or reasonable and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Now, 4 chapters in and I'm hoping this lays the franchise to rest. Although I doubt it, when has Hollywood ever let a good thing rest?

RRR

Saw this on NetFlix, gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Hindi/Bollywood, India under the British Raj and and the British are portrayed much as they like to portray the Nazis, basically the same, and - really, English Colonialism was every bit as savage as French, Belgian, Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish Colonialism. So they're not far off.

It's about 10 X better written than any American film, with a lot more depth, nuance and complexities to the plot. That's not to say it has a lot, just more. And it's nice to see cultures represent their own history - as opposed to us doing it. Even if it's clearly a ridiculously over-the-top fiction. The dancing was fun, the jumping with the tigers and torches, brilliant, I mean - Hollywood's problem is that they feed us utter rubbish - Marvel Movies, for example - and they try to keep it a bit "Grounded" by slight attention to the laws of gravity and such, this - they don't fucking care. Turn it up to 11...no, no, 12...fuck it, all the way up to 100!!!! Nobodies supposed to believe it, just be amused.

Anyways, I've had a few Bollywood movies on my list and now I'm inspired to try and see a few more...

Good Will Hunting

Yes, I know, hardly new but like a lot of movies I hadn't seen it. Knew it by reputation.

So, younger - unrecognizable almost Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver (Heard about her, still no real clue as to who she is), and Matt Damon, because he was pretty popular in a lot of other movies I never saw.

Anyways, good, not great, and certainly in no ways deserving all the heavy-handed praise. Just good.

The Saragossa Manuscript

I don't know how I've never heard of this.

Absolutely bloody brilliant, 1965 Black & White Polish movie about...

Well, I don't want to spoil it, but it's an Arabian Nights of sorts, and as I'm going to briefly describe it (Spoilers below - don't do the read more unless you've first watched it...)
