I've been a little addicted to Ebay lately. Searching for obscure things, ordering preposterous new garbage to replace all of the old garbage I'm getting rid of.
It's a vicious cycle.
And I order the new rubbish express, with tracking numbers and everything, so I can look on the Canada Post website and see just exactly where my parcel is in transit.
My parcels, I said addicted.
As always, no matter how far away the parcels are coming from (India, China, Vietnam, the USA) or how third world the originating country they're always at customs within a week. And here they sit, presumably waiting review. Usually another week.
And then they're marked again as posted, and here the wait begins. 2 weeks, sometimes 3 before they show up in your mailbox. "Final Notices" being delivered without a first or second notice, always, always, always. You can't call and ask "What the hell is going on there" because you know damned well. Very little. Although, with the evolution of technology, it won't be long now before you'll be able to watch, 24/7, your parcel sitting on warehouse docks, sitting in the back of idle trucks, inching towards you at the speed of continental drift, although the fact that it's possible doesn't mean it will ever happen. For to do that would mean you'd as well be able to watch the posties drinking their coffee, smoking their cigarettes, opening and playing with your package and toys, and this just wouldn't do. And the Ebay Sellers, from the Ukraine and other countries, they beg your indulgence, their postal service is slow and they apologize for it, allow them a few extra days shipping and you know, you've the tracking number, that their opinion of their post office is seriously misinformed, it's never them or their messed up country or civil war or earthquake in progress, it's always Canada Post.
